Baylor Intensive Greek
Program Overview
This set of courses provides a solid grounding in both classical and Christian Greek. In addition to providing a start in major classical texts, we spend considerable time on the New Testament, but with looks backward to the Greek Old Testament (the Septuagint), which is frequently its source, and forward to Greek patristic texts to which both give rise.
The full program consists of two halves, each covering the equivalent of one full year of Greek instruction and conveying 6 hours of credit. Each half of the program meets for three hours a day, five days a week for five weeks and has been designed to convey a maximum of learning with care, repetition, review, and precision. After this boot-camp like experience, a student will be able to take a junior-level course in classical or early Christian Greek. Even moderately successful students will be able to comprehend the Greek of the Gospels with ease and begin the study of the simpler Epistles.
